Hello, I'm Olivier Rouchard
An Airbus pilot translating the cockpit's systems for sleep, nutrition, movement, connection and focus — so you can become a better pilot of your own life.
I fly Airbus jets for a living — and I'm fascinated by everything that keeps a cockpit calm when the day isn't.
Two pilots who have never met move 300 people across the world before breakfast, and almost nothing goes wrong. Not because they are heroes — because aviation has spent a century building systems for focus, decision-making, teamwork, and fatigue. I write about those systems, and how anyone can run them in an ordinary life.
I have worked the flight deck from the A320 to the A380, and today the A330. Before aviation I spent fifteen years building things on the web, and earlier still I trained in hospitality. Three industries, one habit: I cannot stop asking how complex things actually hold together — and how a person can run on the same principles.
I am also a shift worker, a triathlete, and a relentless self-experimenter in sleep, nutrition, and recovery. So I test these ideas on myself, not just in theory.
What you'll find here
Lessons from the cockpit, translated for the five things you have to keep flying at once:
- 😴 Sleep & Recovery — what shift workers and long-haul crews learn about rest, fatigue, and lasting energy.
- 🍽️ Nutrition — fuelling performance around an unpredictable schedule, without the dogma.
- 🏃 Movement — staying strong when time and motivation are scarce.
- 👥 Connection — why a shared procedure beats trusting the person beside you, in any team or family.
- 🧭 Focus & Decisions — the frameworks pilots use to choose well under pressure (and a "sterile cockpit" for your own deep work).
Why "better pilots of our own lives"
Because the magic in aviation is not the people — it is the method. Brief the day, fly the plan, debrief honestly, improve on purpose. You don't need a cockpit to run that loop.
This is where I share the wins, the struggles, and what actually works — so you can fly your own life with a little more system and a little less chaos.
